Connected ArchiveStore/EM™ - FAQ's

Frequently asked questions - and their answers - about
ArchiveStore/EM.

Q. How is ArchiveStore/EM better than other email archiving solutions?

A. ArchiveStore/EM is designed on open standards for archive longevity, and built
with email management, compliance and legal discovery functionality in a single
solution.

A. ArchiveStore/EM operates entirely from the server side, delivering true
clientless operation with no client-side installations necessary. This makes
ArchiveStore/EM the fastest, easiest route to email archiving.

A. ArchiveStore/EM is the most secure of all email archiving solutions. It is the
only one that uses 256-bit AES encryption both in transit and on the server,
assuring complete security. A digital signature (RSA 1024-bit encryption key) is
applied to each email for proof of authenticity, creating the highest levels of legal
admissibility for email. (More on security)

Q. What about audit?

A. ArchiveStore/EM automatically audits every activity associated with archived
email and its attachments, providing demonstrable integrity for the highest levels
of compliance and legal admissibility. A tamper-evident audit trail is created
whenever a message is moved, viewed or deleted, or whenever policies change.

Q. Does ArchiveStore/EM help with email management?

A. Yes. Email no longer needs to reside on overburdened email servers. The
solution automatically moves messages and attachments to low-cost secondary
storage, following policies and schedules implemented by IT administrators. This
frees up to 90% of the space on email servers and gives a significant boost to
their performance.

A. ArchiveStore/EM puts an end to limits on user mailbox size. The solution
provides users with virtually transparent access to archives through their email
client, or a secure web browser – which enables simple, Google-like searching,
so users have easy access to all their historical email up to the limits of their
organization’s retention policies. This saves them – and IT/IS – time once spent
managing email.

Q. How easy is ArchiveStore/EM to install?

A. Of all solutions, ArchiveStore/EM is the easiest to install because it provides
true clientless operation – operating entirely on the server side. There is no need
to interrupt users and no downtime for installation. Users can view and retrieve
archived email from their mail client, or perform simple-to-complex full-text
searching and retrieval using the solution’s web browser.

Q. Is ArchiveStore/EM really more secure than other email archiving
solutions?

A. Yes. It is the only one to encrypt messages both in transit and in storage,
using 256-bit AES encryption. ArchiveStore/EM assigns a unique RSA 1024-bit
digital encryption key to each document, assuring access to only authorized users
and enabling document destruction by key deletion, even when messages are
stored off site. Find out more.

Q. How does ArchiveStore/EM help with legal discovery?

A. Full-text indexing/search and sort-by-category reduce the time to identify
specific messages from days to minutes, cutting the cost of legal discovery by up
to 90%. For a typical medium-sized business, the savings could amount to
hundreds of thousands of dollars per year.

Q. Who sets archiving and retention policies?

A. Your corporate compliance, legal team or representative sets archiving and
retention policies, controlling which messages are archived, where they are
stored and when they are to be destroyed. These policies are entered into the
system by administrators, and apply to all email messages and attachments
across the organization. While they have easy access to their own archived
messages, individual users have no control over which messages are archived
and which are not. And policies and administration activities are audited as well,
so there is complete oversight to every action related to archived email.

Q. Users have easy access to their archived messages?

A. Yes. ArchiveStore/EM enables access to archived emails within the user’s mail
client, or through the solution’s web browser. The web browser allows
simple-to-complex search and retrieval, based on full-text indexing, with
searches by date range, rfc822 header information, message content or
attachment content. This dual access, combined with stubbing (where the
archived email is replaced with a viewable HTML link), makes archiving virtually
transparent to users.
