Connected ArchiveStore/EM™ - Security

Security Starts with Continuous Capture

ArchiveStore/EM’s Archiver service continuously reads email from the journal
mailbox and classifies each message according to predetermined policies. To
meet compliance and legal discovery requirements, the solution does not “batch
archive”. Continuous capture allows messages to be immediately removed from
the mail server following archiving. This essential step eliminates any possibility
that a message has been modified or deleted prior to reaching the archive.

Only ArchiveStore/EM compresses data (reducing average file size by 50%),
encrypts each message for confidentiality and digitally signs email for
non-repudiation.

256-Bit AES Encryption

Security in Transit and in Storage

Other email archiving solutions encrypt messages during transfer but then store
files unencrypted, allowing an unobstructed view to anyone with access to the
archive. Only ArchiveStore/EM automatically encrypts every document to be
archived, both in transit and in storage. The solution employs 256-bit AES
encryption, beyond government standards, for the greatest possible security.

1024-Bit Digital Signatures

Control Over Document Destruction

ArchiveStore/EM automatically assigns each document a unique digital signature.
This RSA 1024-bit encryption key proves the authenticity of each document. It
also gives administrators the power to effectively destroy all copies of any
document by deleting its key. Because only one encryption key can ‘unlock’ any
given file, this method of document destruction is effective regardless of where
the file is stored.

Tamper-Evident Audit Trails

Maximum Evidential Weight for Email Archives

Under ArchiveStore/EM, any and every use of a message – each time it is stored,
viewed, moved or deleted – automatically creates a tamper-evident audit trail.
Policy changes are audited as well. These audit trails assure the integrity of
email archives, providing the highest level of legal admissibility and the maximum
evidential weight for email records.

Privacy and Access

Easy Access for Authorized Users

Users have secure access to email they sent, received or were copied on, via any
web browser or through their mail client application. ArchiveStore/EM offers
powerful, easy, Google-like message search, with retrieval online or to the
original inbox; administrators have the option of recovering email to any inbox.
Under Microsoft Exchange 2000 and 2003 servers, user access to authorized
archived files is virtually transparent.

No Access for Unauthorized Users
Messages are encrypted during both transfer and storage, giving away nothing to
someone who manages unauthorized access to the archive. ArchiveStore/EM
recognizes when users are removed from distribution lists, allowing them access
to documents only prior to their removal date.
